Over his forty year career Stan Burrows has managed software engineering organizations in internet startups, information technology groups as a chief information officer, and has consulted to organizations as diverse as the World Bank Group and the Executive Office of Health and Human Services in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He has worked full time for the Oracle Corporation as a Software Engineering Manager and for the Microsoft Corporation as a Senior Technical Account Manager. Most recently he has worked as a Business Intelligence Management Consultant and as a Senior Program Manager for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Burrows is a lifelong Cambridge Massachusetts resident and an experienced management consultant, focused on technology. He has worked for and advised technology companies as well as corporate and government officials in for-profit and non-profit enterprises.
He began his career as a programmer analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston where he wrote econometric software for the modeling, analysis and management of the New England economy. Recruited away from the Federal Reserve System by the minicomputer revolution, Mr. Burrows worked first in corporate planning at Hewlett Packard (then Digital Equipment Corporation), where he managed the worldwide strategic planning and competitive analysis processes. Later, having been promoted to software engineering management, he built data base management software products sold profitably to commercial customers.
Mr. Burrows earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in computer science from Boston University. The capstone to his formal education was a master’s degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Mr. Burrows has served as a director of several local nonprofits including Operation A.B.L.E of Greater Boston, The Guidance Center Incorporated, and The MicroLoanFoundation. He volunteers on the Membership Committee of the Harvard Club of Boston and on the Finance Committee of the board of directors for United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley.
